WHY

Why

Mr. Braid of the Calgary Herald makes a very good point that there have not been that many suggestions on how to replace lost jobs, so I had a few suggestions.

Consider both sides of the results of building the Trans-Mountain Pipeline Expansion.

In the event we build the pipeline and all goes well.

  • Lots of jobs for Canadians during the construction period
  • We can sell the oil abroad bringing foreign money into Canada benefiting the Oil companies as well as other select Canadians.
  • No spill occurs
  • SRKW (Southern Resident Killer Whale) continue their slow march toward extinction
  • Some money will be allocated to saving the fishery to ensuring business as usual, essentially hush money
  • Loss of International reputation
  • Climate Change will continue unabated perhaps even exacerbated

In the event we build the pipeline and all goes wrong.

  • Lots of jobs for Canadians during the construction period
  • We can’t sell the oil and all Canadians are subsidizing the entire industry because it would be unacceptable to allow so many to suffer for their poor choice.
  • A spill occurs on the Fraser river or Burrard Inlet killing all life the bitumen comes into contact with, and destroying the coastline for any use for years to come
  • Many of the whales die in a shorter time frame and the whale watching industry collapses
  • Fishery entirely collapses (it seems that it may have already)
  • Loss of international reputation
  • Climate Change will continue unabated perhaps even exacerbated

In the event we build my alternatives and all goes wrong.

  • Lots of jobs for Canadians
  • New industry created (building of electric cargo ships) How much energy would be produced if we cover the hulls of one of those cargo vessels in solar panels?  I’m thinking LOTS
  • We follow the best science recommendations to assist in the recovery of the west coast fishery and the health of the SRKW
  • We are not purposefully adding to climate change
  • Gain international prestige by showing our willing to be team-players
  • We end up having to pay for the platform on our own
  • Charge tolls letting some vessels enter the port of Vancouver to help pay for the platform

In the event we build the alternatives and all goes well

  • Lots of jobs for Canadians
  • New industry created (building of electric cargo ships) How much energy would be produced if we cover the hulls of one of those cargo vessels in solar panels?  I’m thinking LOTS
  • We follow the best science recommendations to assist in the recovery of the west coast fishery and the health of the SRKW resulting in significant recovery within 8 years
  • We are not purposefully adding to climate change
  • Gain international prestige by showing our willing to be team-players
  • The Americans help to build and pay for the platform
  • Only allowing cruise ships to enter the port of Vancouver after they pay a toll
